Thursday, December 16, 2004 Firstly, on the job front, had some more communication today, and although I may not like the job, I have no problems with my boss anymore. We're on the same page. I think we should hang out outside of work more. We have the same dog... ANYWAY, as I alluded to earlier in an earlier entry, we have a unicycle trials course in my garage. So, I'm posting some videos of it. I'm don't have many pictures of it because neither my camera or Mark's take decent pictures in the garage. I don't know why. But, I have a few. Mostly, though, you should look at the videos. (if you haven't figured out how to view divx yet leave me a message in the comments) Pictures: Video: (640x480 divx, should work fine fullscreen) Extra Pictures -> Why you should wear leg armor: (courtesy of Mark) The video quality was much better before compressing, but they were over 20 megs and no one wants that. (the last one was something like 80 megs) If you want to see the good versions (higher frame rate, no dropped frames, and no artifacting) ask in the comments (that goes for any video I post). I don't want to throw 'em up here for bandwidth reasons. There are no videos of me riding because Mark's camera takes crappy quality uncompressable .movs, and I'm just not as good as he is at riding yet. Some will come later when we do more with my camera. Posted by Seager @ 11:25 PM CST Link | Alright, so I don't hate my boss, and I'de never say he is a jerk. Just unappreciative (outwardly). He helped out tonight during the worst night of work yet. It sucked. I think he gave me a compliment too, in his own special way. I still like the guy, it's just - he easilly becomes the target of my job disatisfaction. Posted by Seager @ 05:12 AM CST Link | Wednesday, December 15, 2004 With the exception of bikes at work and the band shell, I've never had job that I didn't hate after working there for a few months. AATI only took a couple months when I was full time during the summer but was bearable when part time during school - until my boss became a dick. Some jobs took less time, like BASF. I hated that job the second week. Landscaping only took a month or two to hate it due to my asshole boss. When I started though I loved it. Working outside is pimp if your boss isn't a dick. Unfortunately, I find myself beginning to hate my current job, managing a burrito shop. I was hired as bike delivery, and I don't think I'd hate it that much if I still did that, or delivery at all. But instead I have lots of responsiblity, I get every mistake pointed out to me, I have to deal with idiotic highschool underlings, and I don't get paid more than the people I manage. I give that place 100% every minute I'm there, and I don't even get a thank you. The only motivation I have to work hard is my own internal work ethic. I used to care about the shop since I liked the owner, but he's been pissing me off a lot lately (He's impossible to make happy) so that's not there. I guess every job I've hated so far I've hated because of my boss... with the exception of BASF and Mcdonalds, but c'mon, I shouldn't have to make excuses to hate those. (or for working at a fast food burrito shop, now that I mention it) You know it's time to find a new job when you start reciting "if it wasn't supposed to suck, they wouldn't have to pay you to do it" over and over in your head in order to motivate yourself. I took a pay cut to do this instead of landscaping (7/hr instead of 8/hr) and it WAS worth it. Now I'd rather be landscaping, I don't hate this job as much as I hated that one, but I hate it enough that the pay cut is no longer worth it. Too bad that job was seasonal. This may pass, I think. My current boss can't be in a bad mood FOREVER. One of these days he'll tell me I do a good job or pay me more than everyone else for being the most experienced employee, manager, hardest worker, and fastest closer. There's always a first for everything. Fuck, I'll be second in charge after the 15th when the current senior manager leaves. I SHOULD BE MAKING MORE THAN 7 FUCKING DOLLARS AN HOUR! Oh well, I'm not the only one he's pissing off. Moral is low at the Burrito. On the bright side, we built a unicycle trials course in my garage! Or resize it, if you've got the know how) Posted by Seager @ 09:43 PM CST Link | It's hard to type with a cat in your lap, so I'm going to make this shortish. I've been working a shitload recently and playing with a few new toys. Due to severe instability issues with my 5 year old p500 system I upgraded to a used athalon 1.3gig system. I bought the motherboard and processor off Zach and a new case off newegg to fit the sucker and cool it. I kept all the other hardware with the exception of swapping out my voodoo3 for Mark's old G-Force 2 64 meg card. A bunch of reformatting later and I have what SHOULD be a stable system that sure is a shitload faster than what I had. It's not fast by today's standards, but the whole upgrade (with 512 ram) only cost about 200 bucks. That's not bad for almost 3x the machine. Unfortunately, it's not all that stable yet (running win2k) but mostly its only crashed with Firefox. The jury is still out on that browser for me. Avant Browser was really good to me (even if it was vulnerable to IE security flaws.) About 6-10 months ago my digicam disappeared. I don't know what happened to it. (maybe fell out of my truck?) I finally broke down and replaced it with a Canon A75. It's a 3.2 megapixel with all the manual features my old one had, plus with decent video. I almost bought the A85 (4 megapixel) and the A95 (5 megapixel, fold out LCD) but I wanted to keep it cheap. Later when I have more money to throw around I'll buy my dream camera (again). The nice thing is that, with the exception of the swivel LCD I replaced my old $800 Nikon Coolpix 950 with a camera that has the same features and more megapixels for 170 bucks. Yea for 4 years of progress! (I'm still pissed I lost it, for sentimental reasons and for the 128 meg flash card that was in it and full of pictures) So, I took some pictures and videos to share with you all, since it's been awhile since I've done a picture update. We decorated for Christmas today, complete with a live tree! (please ignore the irony of three agnostic/atheists decorating for Christmas) When I worked at the nursery last summer I was in charge of a group of four people (three dipshits and a good one) who trimmed all the Xmas trees at Ames Landscape and Nursery with me. Nothing like buying a tree you trimmed yourself months earlier! Anyway, on with the pictures (the quality is not the original, obviously): "People:" Christmas Preparations:
