God damnit, they're so fucking annoying at work. I don't care if you get free quacamole or extra veggies or even if you get Soyrizzo AS LONG AS YOU TELL ME WHEN YOU WALK IN THE STORE but fucking A, why do half the vegetarians around here wait until half way through me making their burrito (normaly a 30-90 second project) to tell me they want soyrizzo (which takes 2-5 minutes to make)? It's not like I don't have a million other fucking things to do there besides serve their sorry asses.

I was told the other day that one can't be truly non-violent unless they are Vegan. Right... Not that I consider myself non-violent, but that's not the point. I can't remember the last time I was violent (at anything living) but that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's uses - even if it's only real good use to to defend from other violence. But, NONE OF THESE THINGS ARE THE POINT! Where do you draw the line with this whole non-violent thing? Killing an animal to eat it is just farther to one side of the scale as, say, mowing your lawn. You're still "violently" killing a living thing. Whatever...

I want to start calling vegatarians "vagitarians" but I'm afraid I'll offend women. ... Hmmm.. However, I'm not offended when someone calls someone else a "dick" because they are jerks, why should women be offended if I call someone a "vagina" if they are wusses (it's really not any different from calling them a "pussy"). That means the stereotype would be that men are jerks and women are wusses? Whatever, as long as we are equal here, I think Title 9 will be happy. Vagitarians it is. Maybe "Sandy Vagitarians"... yes, that's nice an offensive.

It's a shame not everyone agrees with me that, in actuality, nothing is offensive and EVERYTHING is funny. Oh well. Myself and the 5 other people that agree with me are doomed to hell anyway.

Don't worry. No slightly (highly?) offensive philosophical preaching today.

For those of you that don't check theUnexpected Failure Productions website daily I have a few announcements.

The ISUJC got second in Varieties this year (first last year) and I finally have the videos of both the performances up at UFP as well as a video of Shy of a Dozen who beat us this year.

I also have two new trials videos up - Campus 2006 and Trials 2006.

The videos and descriptions are listed on UFP under "performances" and "unicycling" respectively. They're relatively fast downloads.

Some of the falls in the trials videos make me hurt just watching them.

Boy I am in a soap boxy mood. Bitching here helps me get my idea's into focus, however. Writing out my opinions here helps me find cracks in them.

So I was thinking alot about my old religious studies that I used to do. I stopped actively trying to prove or disprove God around 2002 when I wrote a paper on the cosmotology argument and reached a dead end. It was the end to a 6 search starting when I was 16 and first "lost" my faith. No new argument have come out in a thousand years, simply because no new evidence has been found. It's dissapointing. Oh well... I've been agnostic now for around 9 years. Hehe, I remember Dick and my parents thinking I was going to grow out of it. Oops... I'm thinking about re-opening/reitterating some of the best arguments about religion here. Something to do I guess.

Anyway, so that got me thinking about vegetarianism again, and I've decided to treat it like a religion.

-Religion is not based on fact - it can be neither proven or disproven. (unless it's a really stupid religion)
-Vegetarianism is not based on fact - there are no real good arguments for or against it

-Coventional logic and wisdom say that most religions are improbable.
-Coventional logic and wisdom say that vegetarianism being a "good" idea is improbable. (we have canine teeth for a reason, etc)

Thus, I will try to react to vegetarianism like I do religion. You can believe whatever makes you feel good UNTIL you start to make laws based on it, force it on others, use it to justify "evil deeds", or (to a lesser extent) inconvenience me. Then we have a problem.

It was bound to happen... I'm going to get back on my soap box tonight to vent some frustration. At some point I need to talk about how being anti-death penalty and pro-choice is NOT a contradiction providing you share the world view that I have. That, however, will take awhile since I'd need to first explain my particular secular moral theory. Another topic that has been bugging me lately is how many intelligent people are anti-GMO because they've been lied to or happen to be ignorant about science. HOWEVER, that is not tonight's topic. Tonights topic is... :

VEGETARIANISM!!!

Why am I writing about this? It's not because I don't like vegetarians. I'm fine with them. Want to be vegetarian? Go for it, I don't care. What I have issue with is some of the BULLSHIT that hear coming out of SOME vegetarian's mouths at my restaurant. I'm fucking sick of it so I'm going to address it here.

Myth #1: Vegetarianism is healthier.
I wish that me simply saying "I know more about biology and science than you, take my word for it," would work here, but sadly it doesn't. However, the Burden of Proof for this claim lies solely on vegetarians. Why? Because we evolved to eat meat. We are OMNIVORES! If you believe in evolution, that you should understand why claiming vegetarianism is healthier is ridiculous UNLESS you can provide substantial evidence to prove the contrary.

So what is "substantial evidence?" That would be a study where there is NO OTHER POSSIBLE EXPLANATION than that eating no meat is healthiest. A quick google search says there are about the same number of studies that claim vegetarianism healthier as there are studies claiming that that is a myth. So, find me a study where the science is sound and neither one of these possible other explanations could apply:

1) Vegetarians are healthier because they are forced to watch their diet. Of course they are healthier than the standard meat eating McDonalds customer. Anyone who watches their diet that closely will be healthy.

2) Many meat eaters eat meat in excess. Of course vegetarians are healthier, eating anything in excess is bad for you. Most of those studies simply prove that eating no meat or moderate amounts of meat is better than over-indulging in it. (I know I eat more than I should, but like the taste so it's a fair trade for me.)

Myth #2: It's better for the human race to not eat meat because you can grow more food per acre of crops than you can meat.

Well, you're right, you can. Big whoop, doesn't matter. We can already grow more corn etc than we know what to do with. We have tons of high yield crops as it is. It's screwing the price up. Right now the market is so oversaturated that tons of farmers are in financial trouble. We don't NEED to grow more crops, in fact we'd be better off growing less.

What's that you say? We could stop world hunger? BULLSHIT. We could feed most of the 3rd world with the crops we can produce now, but that's irrelevant because the reason we won't feed the 3rd world is for economic and political reasons. You can stop all livestock productions and grow crops on 99% of the USA and there wouldn't be ONE MORE OUNCE of food getting to those people. Wake up. If you want to solve world hunger fix the politics and economics first.

Myth #3: Eating meat is cruel.

Why does a tiger have the right to eat a gazelle but I don't have the right to eat a cow? We're both animals, right? The cow is better off anyway because it's not being torn open by a tiger, it's being shot or clubbed in the head. If you stress out an animal too much before you kill it the meat gets crappy, so it's in the slaughterer's best interest not to torture the animal first.

Don't get me wrong, some animals are slaughtered in awful ghastly ways. The solution to this is to regulate how livestock is slaughtered instead of giving up meat entirely. Over-react much? If you want to stop cruel animal slaughter work to get laws that change the practice. You're not going to get anywhere trying to stop the world from eating meat.

I have no problem killing an animal to eat it. I don't like hunters that don't eat their kills, that I believe is wrong. But killing to eat it? Nothing wrong with that, it's natural. Letting someone else kills that animal that I'm going to eat? I see nothing wrong with that.

BTW, if cruelty to animals is why you are vegetarian than you should probably switch to vegan if you don't want to be a hypocrite. You may also want to buy new shoes, etc.

--------------

Alright, I'm done. In conclusion, you can eat meat and still be just as healthy as any vegan or vegetarian as long as you pay as close attention to your diet at they do. In fact, you'd probably be healthier than them. Humans are NOT god damn herbivores. You have canine teeth, USE THEM.

As I've said before I don't have a problem with MOST vegetarians. I try not to argue with them unless they start it. (the one exception being when I crashed Katie's LJ with unsolicited meat eating propaganda the other day, but that was be a side effect of that day at work and she was an unfortunate victim. I regret doing that, because me doing that is precisely the type of thing I'm complaining about here) I just can't stand it when I'm serving them their damn soyrizzo and they start spouting off about how much better and healthier they are cause they don't eat meat.

Speaking of soyrizzo, I hate it when vegetarians get special treatment. It's takes 5-10 minutes to make them their damn soyrizzo. It fucks the hell out of our bar rush and is a pain in the ass. Yet, we can't charge them extra for some reason. BULLSHIT! SURCHARGE! If I pick a lifestyle where I want all my food dyed blue, and I go into a restaurant and request that they dye all my food blue for me, THEY'D FUCKING CHARGE ME EXTRA! How is this any different?

One of my worries about moving to Eugene is that I don't want to be acosted by "bad hippie logic." I don't want to be attacked by anti-meat and anti-GMO everywhere I go. It's why I'm thinking of abandoning the Green party. Not liking GMO because you don't understand the science is JUST as bad as Reverend Bush being against stem cells. It's knee-jerk bullshit by undeducated people who are afraid of science and think that scientist are evil and have no ethics. I want to start the "Scientists know best" political party to fight this crap. It's what the Left and the Right have most in common - an irrational fear and misunderstanding of reality and science.

Feel free to debate any of this stuff in the comments. Contrary opinions are welcome.
