The subject of last night's rant is still alive. Last night he was not excecuted because the two anathesiologists who weren't supposed to not let him feel pain wouldn't participate due to ethical concerns. They postponed it until tonight and were going to overdose him with sedative - but this had to be administered by a medical professional and they couldn't find one willing to do it. Apparently doctors won't kill someone who doesn't want to be killed.

Well shit ... WHY THE HELL SHOULD THAT BE A SURPRISE?!?

Jesus fucking christ. At least some people in this country have morals.

His murder warrant has now expired and a new one must be issued. The guy stalled and used the courts in a way that forced all these weird conditions on his execution and when the courts couldn't meet his conditions in time his warrant expired. He may live now. A new warrant may not be issued because the original judge in his case thinks one of the witnesses against him lied. (That was already brought up in an appeal but the other judges ignored it)

Don't get me wrong - they guy probably is guilty and should spend the rest of his life in jail. However, I'm glad we didn't murder him.

The relatives of the victim aren't glad though. They didn't get their bloody revenge and now they're pissed. Apparently the only way they can experience closure is to kill the killer. Can't they see their hypocricy? They're letting a part of themselves die.

Oh well, chalk one up for the good guys.

I was going to write about something else tonight, but this is more prudent since some dude was just killed.

I don't give a fuck what he did. Either murder is wrong, or murder is fine. You CAN'T say it's OK in one instance and not in another. Rape, murder, genocide, SHOULD NOT BE PUNISHED WITH MORE MURDER. I'm sick of those God damn hypocrytical bastards who claim they love jesus bad enough you think they'd fucking buttfuck him if they had the chance (as long as their ogre friends didn't see) jumping at the bit to exact their dirty slimy revenge on someone. Why not just lynch him and string him up? Why pretend this is just? THIS ISN'T JUST! THIS IS REVENGE! CALL IT WHAT IT IS AND STOP FUCKING LYING TO ME, YOURSELF, AND YOUR GOD DAMNED GOD!

I don't give a flying fuck if your moral code says murder is just fine and dandy. Whatever. At least then the battle lines are drawn clearly. I might dislike you, I might be against you and try to stop you, but I can at least respect you for being consistant. However, people who claim murder is wrong and then go ahead and do it... fuck them. They're 10 times worse. I'd take fucking Charlie Manson over these 10,000 jesus buttfuckers chomping at the bit to murder someone - claiming it's just and the right thing to do. Apparently it's OK to play God when it lets you kill someone, but definately not when it comes to stem cell research that might save lives.

Its human nature to want to kill the shit out of other people. It's ALWAYS us vs them deep down inside. You can either rise above or not. These bastards are simply giving into their murderous urges and then trying to pretend it's fine and dandy and that they are taking the high road. CALL IT WHAT IT IS! MURDER, AND YOUR FINE WITH IT!

I'm so sick of the lying and subversion. The purpose the the "justice" system is to protect society - not to exact revenge on people.

Life in jail = protecting society
Death penalty = revenge

Hell, it they'd just call it "the revenge system" I don't think I'd have nearly as big a problem with state sanctioned murder. At least then all our cards on on the table.

So you may ask yourself - why is this a religion issue? Frankly, it's because everything is a religion issue. Religion may do a ton of good in the world, but is certaintly doesn't help our "us vs them" mentality. The best thing religion does is give people hope and meaning in their lives - it lets people feel good about themselves. However, when it lets people feel good about themselves while they do horrible things - then it's a problem.

An atheist who is for capital punishment on the grounds that sometimes murder is justifiable using a secular moral theory that is both valid and sound - and calls it what is is - deserves respect even if I disagree with his chosen moral theory. We simply see the world differently.

A theist who is for capital punishment using a Christian moral theory can eat a fucking dick because no Christian morals that I've studied allow for capital punishment. Claiming to be "Christian" locks you into a pretty rigid moral theory that I know all the rules of. Most likely they are butchering some secular moral theory, throwing God into it, and then molding to fit their needs. These aren't real Christians. I could tell them 100 ways how their bullshit contradicts itself but as long as they have God backing them up logic doesn't matter to them.

A theist who is for capital punishment based on a secular moral theory and who admits all the inherent contradictions involved in such a decision and who compensates for them - also deserves respect and would be fun to debate. I think they'd be on pretty shaky ground, however. I'd say you'd need to pick between your religion and your secular moral theory - but thats for another discussion.

Religion impacts everything in our lives. It gives people hope. It starts wars. It provides comfort when a loved one dies. It justifies the killing of someone's loved one. It helps the elderly not fear death. It helps suicide bombers not fear death. It's helped create and maintain societies with conventional morals and those societies have thrived. It's helped the citizens of those societies rationalize horrible immoral acts. It funded great scientific discoveries in the early years of learning. It's made thousands of people in the world dumber by allowing them to believe in magic over facts and logic.

It would have been nice if I could have believed in God when my Mom died. But I don't. I know my whole family does and they take comfort in the fact that she is in a better place - either in Heaven or with "the creator." I don't. To me, she is dead, period. I will never see her again. I will never feel her again. That's it. The End. Nothing more. When I die it will be exactly the same.

A number of years ago I was comforting a good friend of mine when her Grandmother died. She was in pieces. She was very religious so I told that her grandmother was in a better place, in heaven, looking down on her etc etc. She mentioned (between sobs) that I (me) didn't believe any of that. I replied that it didn't matter if I did or not. What mattered is that she believed it. It helped.

I don't know which one of us is correct, and I never will know. (Unless I'm wrong; I suppose I'd probably come around if my spirit ended up floating around somewhere.)

I can see the appeal, but the jury is still out on religion.

Alright... soo... There's this band called Insane Clown Posse and they mostly suck. However, most people, including me, went through a phase at some point in their life when they found them GOD DAMN HILARIOUS. We didn't take them seriously (shit, they don't take themselves seriously) but they were funny. The song "Mad Scientist" will always make me smile. You can learn more at the ICP wiki article.

I got a chance to drink Faygo on the road show. I laughed by balls off cause it was real. (we found it out west)

So... what happens when stupid people take joke bands seriously? They dress up like them on their myspace page and then go (unsuccesfully) try to kill people with a hatchet and a knife at a gay bar.

ICP didn't make him do it, of course, being a god damned idiot with a fucked up brain made him do it. ICP just made it funny. I mean, read the comments near the bottom of the page. "Juggalos for life", "see you in shrangri-la", "Ima down ima down ima down 'til I'm dead in the ground" etc etc - those are all ICP references. Ever wonder why he used a hatchet? It's because ICP is all about hatchets - their band logo is a clown running around with one. Hell, even his myspace name "jake jeckel" is directly from ICP.

Now, again, ICP didn't make him do it. This is a symptom. Anyone who's drawn to take ICP that seriously and doesn't get the joke are fucked in the head to begin with. So are his fucked up little friends. He was also into nazism and talked about killing black people and gays with his black friends who joked about it too. (or so his myspace buddies claim)

Anyway, I have a theory as to why he killed the cop and his girlfriend. It's because he tried AND FAILED to kill unarmed people with a hatchet AND a gun. He shot someone in the face AND THEY DIDN'T DIE! You have to REALLY REALLY REALLY suck at life to attack a crowd of people with a hatched AND A GUN and not even kill one person.

He was just trying to prove himself. "Look, no guys, I really can shoot someone. Look, I just shot my girlfriend in the head... I... oh... SHIT!" (I assume he talked like Stewart from Beavis and Butthead)

Ever wonder what Hitler's myspace would have looked like?

The shorts/extras off the Moab DVD (Conversations at Moab and Base Jumping) are up on Unexpected Failure. They are under the "shorts" heading.

The base jumping is pretty bad-ass. Also, I watched the DVD on a different TV and the shadow problem wasn't there. SWEET!

I have a tons of recent widescreen footage of campus rides and garage rides with some crazy stuff happening. Should I make those videos first or make a trailer for Moab to put up on UFP?
