10/06/2006 Entry: "god damnit" Man, I hate my job. I don't think I've ever come to hate a job this fast. I need to figure out what the hell I'm doing here. If I wanted to work construction I would have stayed in Iowa. I have a chance to go into wildland firefighting and I need to decide this weekend. The problem is that I'd be home on weekends, and things of that nature, and I'm not sure I want to spend that much time away from Qehn. I also want to get time off... There has to be a way to work without actually working. There is a Old Crow Medicine Show (my favorite bluegrass band) in Portland on next monday night at 9. The problem is I have to work at 6:30 Tuesday morning, so I can't go. That's bullshit. If I worked at, say, 9, or could take the day off like if I worked at any resteruant I'd be set. Honestly, resteruant work only pays a little less and I have WAY more flexibility. It's also not as hard. Maybe I should go back to school. Fuck if I know. Anyway, I have I have at least one reader who's a Poe fan. I found more Poe stuff. She's been on a hiatus because of record label problems since Haunted in 2000. She has been, however, guest vocaling on Conjure One. Conjure One, for you music nerds, is a side project by one of the guys that is in Delerium and Front Line Assembly. It's kind of eastern style beats (kind of like Sting's Desert Rose) with much of Poe's lyrical work and techno sensibility. It has other guest vocalists as well. He has two albums out, the second one being a bit more contemporary and featuring a lot more Poe. You can get them both from mininova if you're a bastard. Listen to the track "Center of the Sun" from Amazon's preview section for a good idea of the first album's sound. Other music I found last night while nerding out is The Kidney Thieves a tech/punk/trip-hop/goth influenced sound that seems very yummy, but I'm not sure yet. And a band called Collide with Chasing the Ghost a strange album. It's a collaboration of some dude named Statik who sounds like he belongs in Front Line Assembly and a chick that looks like Amy Lee but doesn't suck as much. Listen to it here Particularly "Wings of Steel" and "White Rabbit". I don't think any of those bands have quite of the gift that Poe's music does, and most of it is MUCH more gothic, so I can only handle so much at a time before my angst meter explodes and I need to go listen to some Blind Melon to even things out. Still, it's worth checking out if you're into this sort of thing.

Go for the firefighting! At some point, a job is not just what you do so you can do what else you want. It is the majority of time you spend during the week. Go for something you love. Then if you miss out on stuff, at least you will still be doing something you love during the time you have to work. And maybe you won't have to be away from Kitty so much. Or be an EMT! That has better hours than firefighting. Posted by Sis @ 09/03/2006 12:19 PM PST I saw the Kidney Thieves once a long, long time ago. They rocked it pretty hard, if I remember correctly.
