12/14/2003 Entry: "fucking work" I'm in an uncharacteristically bad mood right now. A really bad mood, actually. I was denied my raise today. I am still making only 7$ an hour. I made an extremely good case, too. An excerpt: Many of my acquaintances make more money than me at jobs that I feel require no real training. Over the summer one friend of mine was hired at $7.50 to be night security with no previous training required. McDonalds, generally a good indicator of an area’s cost of living, is hiring at $6.50. Student Security also hires at $6.50, Food Service hires between $7 and $7.25, and Carlos O'Kelly’s is hiring at $7.15. Keep in mind these are just their hiring rates. All these jobs require much less intelligence to do the work required, and the work that one does there is generally easier. They actually agreed with what I said too, and agreed that I should be getting a dollar or two more an hour. However, they aren't doing raises this year. Sorry. .... Alright, y'know what though? I don't give a fucking damn. That's fine for those people that got raises last year because at least they are being paid what they were worth a year ago. However, I have ALWAYS done more than what a fucking 7$/hour is worth. Furthermore, it's not like they can't give me a raise anyway. They can afford the extra 300 dollars or so it would cost them this semester to give me a raise. They wouldn't miss the money, but that money would do me A HELL of a lot of good. Also, the raises are confidential for a reason, they can give me a raise and no one else without people feeling bad. There is a huge difference between me and everyone else in that lab, because I'm little and part time. They can give me a raise without ruining the fucking company. Especially since they hired for me chicken scratch in the first place. I've been planning on asking for a raise since November, but I figured I'd wait until I was there for 6 months first. Then, I decided to wait for evaluations. All this time I was figuring to myself "Yes, I know my job sucks, but you'll get a raise soon, it will be ok." God damnit. What a waste of my time. If I could find somewhere else that would hire me for only three months, and weren't friends with the people I worked with, I'd quit right now. My loyalty to that place disgusts me sometimes. If I wanted to get payed shit I would work at Wal-mart or McDonalds and do a hell of a lot less work.
