12/07/2006 Entry: "my job" I've never been as unsatisfied at my job at I am currently. I know I've complained a lot over the last couple of years about it - but this is over the top. I feel like my boss has stabbed me in the back. That's why I was drunk the other night - which turned out to be a very good time. If I wasn't leaving already the writing would be on the wall for me to leave now. I love my coworkers, and I don't hate the work, but I just can't be somewhere anymore where some people can do no wrong and I can, apparently, do no right. For being the longest serving manager, the IT guy, maintenence man, etc, I sure am crapped on. According to some people it's like I don't do any work there at all. My boss's grip on reality seems to be getting more and more challenged, and it won't be until after I leave that he realizes the influence I have there and the battles that I still fight on his behalf. His loss. He'll never understand how much I've done for him and his business. I was telling Robin the other day that the curse of the hardworker is to be forever under-appreciated and under-paid. He said that was depressing. I should revise it, however, to "the curse of the uneducated hard worker" - and maybe when I get a real job using my degree I'll be better off. I doubt it though. Once you understand the curse, and also that "if work wasn't supposed to suck, they wouldn't have to pay you to do it," you can go about accepting it, living with it, and moving on. The key to happiness is low expectations of job satisfaction. That way you aren't always being let down. Work should only be something you do on the side to pay for your hobbies anyway, not your life.
