12/14/2006 Entry: "First day at work" Well, I had my first day at work today. Unfortunately they ran out of work for our crew so I only worked from 6:30-9. That kind of sucks. If I didn't want to work I wouldn't have gotten a job. We were finishing out a concrete basement job. Our job (I'm on a crew of about 6) was to break site. This means we had to take apart the wooden form that they poured the concrete into the day before. This meant stacking up loads of 3x8 wooden forms (and several smaller forms, but these were the bulk.) Each of these forms weigh 80lbs and you have to heft them over your head. After an hour of doing that I was getting pretty sore. I'm easilly the smallest guy there but I was holding my own just fine. I am pretty sore after only 2.5 hour of work, however, so maybe it's glad that I had this breakin day. I figure it'll only be hard the first week, after that I'll have aquired the neccisary bulk to not be as sore, and after a few weeks I should be able to take it all in stride. It's just like any other sport. On the bright side this is really going to help my core strength which is essential in unicycling. When carrying that much weight up high your back and abs get a work out, and those are very important balancing muscles. Sweetness!
