12/14/2007 Entry: "house exploring" These last two weekends have been the only weekends since November that I had both Saturday and Sunday off. I've been informed since we are so busy that I'll probably be working every Saturday from now on for the next two months. Bleh. I kind of wanted to go snowboarding this winter since I live fairly close to several different snowboarding heaven locations. CRAPSTICKS! On the bright side, I'll make assloads of overtime. I'm not sure how to do my taxes since in the last year I got married and moved to a different state. My normal online easy place probably won't suffice. Crap. I was able to explore the woods around my house. They are vast, but some of them are peppered with no trespassing signs, so I need to ask my landlord about where he's allowed to go. If I can pass them then I'll have a few miles of the middle of nowhere running trails. That would be swankshit. I'm having some issues naming the area's around my house. What I have been calling out backyard really technically is our front yard and vice versa. But, from inside the house it really feels the opposite. So, I have the backyard, which is the big thing, the front yard which is the driveway and technical backyard. The lower (east) woods, the side (south) woods, and the upper (west) woods. For now cardinal directions will have to do until I name them. And finally, our cats smell like medicine/pesticides. Our new house gave our cats flees. I guess the old tenants didn't clean the carpet very well when they moved out. I'm guessing the carpet was filled with eggs/cocoons. The cocoons, I hear, can last pretty much forever, but you can trigger them to germinate by vacuuming. So, we gave them a flee bath and then put on some of the flee stuff that you put on the back of their necks (that's what smells) and did some flee powder on the carpet, but I doubt that carpet stuff will work. I'm assuming our bed, couches, etc are all flee infested. I worry because cats are way more susceptible to pesticides than dog and we are, so I'm scared of using the carpet stuff, and really wary of the other flee treatments. I figure if I vacuum daily and treat the cats monthly with the flee crap they should at least be controlled and stay off the cats. I don't really care if they are hanging out as long as they aren't on us or the cats. I guess this means I need to shower more than once a week now, huh? //update: The cats just got another bath. I decided to wash off the neck stuff. We didn't use the standard frontline stuff we used to use on Georgia. We used Harts Ultraguard from Wal-Mart. This seems to have been a mistake. About 3 hours after the treament is seemed like C'Mere was losing some hair around where we put it on. Michi seemed fine, but they both smelled like horrible death chemicals - something that never happened with the frontline stuff. Then I found HartzVictims.org and decided that it was better safe than sorry and washed the crap back off of them. Yes, I know the internet often lies, and that HartzVictims.org may be funded by vets who want you to go to them, or frontline, and that all the testimonials may be false, and even that the hair coming off C'Mere's neck may happen all the time and I was just looking for it this time... HOWEVER, fuck that shit, better safe than sorry. At least frontline smells better. We'll be going to the vet ASAP for certified kitty safe anti-flea chemicals instead of the crappy walmart kind.
